A session on all things money, tax and business for artists and creatives.

Are you starting a new creative business venture and aren’t sure how to set up? Or are you self employed and want to know how to complete your first tax return? This session focuses on all aspects of setting up to begin trading. 

Led by Caroline Carter a licensed accountant, helping business owners to understand their financial reports and compliance requirements. Director of Carter Clear Accounting Limited, a practice specialising in clients from creative, events and e-commerce industries. Their clients include lighting and sound engineers, post production sound operatives and a variety of live and online performance artists and they are experienced in dealing with the range of different accounting treatments for different creative and events industries. 

This workshop will cover:

  • Registering as self employed

  • Business types - Individual, partnership, Company

  • Types of companies

  • Basic bookkeeping

  • Completing a tax return

  • Business expenses

SLAP Collective present 'The Work Of Art' in partnership with York Creatives. A workshop series for artists and creatives practicing any art form and at any point in their career. 

These workshops cover all aspects of the 'business side' of being an artist. In the current climate it is becoming essential to be able to promote your work and understand how to manage a business, to have a sustainable career in the arts.
